Saras Mela in Sheesh Mahal
The stalls were put up at the "Mela" by Artisians ,Entrpenuers and small industries from many parts of India so much so from Jammu and Kashmir, HP, UP and south India. The Mela had huge brigade of grand colourful presenters from different states who performed in their costumes of traditional dresses of their respective states ,also were enthralling the audience by their performances,giving a vivid picture of different shades of Indian culture and diversity.
The district administration has made every possible effort to make Saras Mela a success. They are spreading awareness about the mela at village level to ensure a good turnout at the mela this year. The mela conducted at Sheesh Mahal displays art and culture from different cultures.
The effort is to attract more people to the mela this year as compared to the last year and for this people from all quarters are being told about the mela. Block development officers have been appointed to spread awareness about the mela by sending invitation to sarpanches of about 1000 villages. The BDOs have also been directed to confirm whether people close to the SAD party have got the invitation or not. Sources confirmed that chief minister pf Punjab Parkash Singh Badal will be interacting with these people at the mela on 12th. Efforts are on to ensure that a meeting of about 1000 sarpanches is conducted on the first day of the mela.
Alliance has been made with a FM radio station to advertise about the mela 10 times daily free of cost so that more and more people can know about the event.
All BDOs have been given 5000 tickets of the mela each and they have been directed to sell these tickets. ADC Anandita Mitra has stated that this is an important step to ensure that awareness is spread at the village level. She wants everyone to know about the Saras Mela. Loud speakers are being used to announce about the mela at places close to the districts.
An amount of Rs 25,000 has been given to the Municipal Corporation for putting ads at various places in the city. Mitra said that these ads are being places at places that are allowed to display ads. Students from government schools will be given free entry to the mela.
